Such a stately subject for the herbaceous border, Cloth of Gold produces large, flat flowers which are long lasting when cut and can also be dried for everlasting arrangements. Achillea is also known as yarrow. Attractive ferny foliage. Long lasting cut flowers.
Sowing time: February - July
Sowing indoors: Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface, and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in warmth 10-15C (50-60F), and keep moist.
Growing on: Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from bright sun. When large enough to handle, transpalnt 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost. Alternatively, transplant individually to 8cm (3in) pots.
Hardening off/Planting Out:Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out from April onwards. allow 45cm (18in) between plants.
Flowering Time: May - August. Early sowings will flower the same year.
